When is the last time you received a handwritten letter? Or took the time to write a letter to someone you were just thinking about?
Several years ago, I heard an NPR segment about the lost art of letter writing. I found it compelling. Just thinking about the effort and intentionality of handwritten letters generated a strong nostalgia. I was reminded how much I adored note passing when I was a teenager who had a knack for matchmaking. Even more, this opened a discussion about human connectivity that has slowly leaked out of the dominant culture.
In the present moment, we are advancing rapidly into the techno-sphere. We text more than we call. We shop through profile pictures to make business and romantic connections. Our calls to the local restaurant are being answered by Ai agents. We are living in WestWorld.
Yet, the power of thoughtful words has remained unchanged.
Today, I write with the intentionality of humanity. To say, “Thank you for sharing this moment with me and my wild musings.”
To tell you how valuable you are and how much I appreciate you.
To encourage you that no matter what happens to day, or who gives you the stank eye, that I love you and I care deeply that you find peace, fulfillment, and purpose.
This is a hug from me to you.
Be blessed and encouraged,
Sherlyn “Char” Selassie, Esq.
P.S.
A few hours after I wrote this post, I received the following word HUG (I teared up).
Char was nothing short of amazing! She gave me way more than I anticipated with her knowledge, compassion, relatability, and humor. She listened intently to what I was seeking and gave me a practical step by step plan. Every question I asked was answered - she even answered the questions I didn’t know I had! I left the meeting feeling encouraged, confident, and capable. Saying this was a great experience doesn’t come close to the peace I felt after discussing fears and hard things where she in turn offered an open heart to help and a resolution. This didn’t feel like someone “just doing their job” but a woman who has embraced her God-given call to serve others with the gifts He has given her - she helped me with such ease, no judgement, no dismissal, simply value beyond measure.
