Have you been in a miserable marriage for a prolonged period of time and you've just accepted that nothing would ever change? You have reluctantly resolved that you'll never really be married? You are simply satisfied that you're doing the right thing by not getting a divorce? Because you are a person of faith and you believe that God hates divorce, you have just accepted that nothing could ever be different or better than what it already is?
Well, what if I told you that a contract of possibility is still available to you?
The reason why you haven't known is because the church hasn't taught you how miracles really work from a legal standpoint. I'm demonstrating this today from the record of John 5:1-15. The record reveals the account of the man at the pool of Bethesda.
The pool of Bethesda was known for having seasonal healing properties. At various times, the waters were stirred by an angel. Whoever reached the water first received the medicinal benefit of that water. The man who is at the center of this analysis had been sitting near the pool for 38 years. For more than three decades, he became more discouraged, watching everyone else reach the water before he could. He simply couldn't move fast enough to get the healing whenever the waters were stirred. At this point, Jesus arrives and sparked up a conversation with the man.
“Hey, how long have you been here?”
The man replies flatly, “38 years.”
“Why have you been here for 38 years?” Jesus prodded.
“Because every time I try to go get healing, somebody beats me to it.”
You see, over the years, the man just accepted the excuse—
That he couldn’t get to the water fast enough…
That someone else deserved it more than he did…
Maybe he even believed that he was being punished for some reason.
But that day, Jesus made a proposal (offer) to him. “Why don't you just get up, pick up the mat that you've been laying on for the past 30 plus years?”
Make a move.
Do something different.
Don't wait until the waters are stirred before you make your move.
Get up and pick up your mat.
The man accepted the offer. He was no longer paralyzed and unable to move without help. He picked himself up and relocated from the place where he had settled in despair for nearly a lifetime.
Offer plus acceptance equal the thing we agree shall be. This is the law. People of faith are not taught, that. Rather, we are conditioned to be spooky, wishing upon a star. Miracles are a legal operation. Jesus made an offer. The man accepted with his act of obedience. Following the proposed instruction is an acceptance of an offer. He agreed with the proposal that he would stand on his own, no longer blaming everyone else for being stuck in his spot.
They agreed he would be healed and so, the healing was.
So if you have been in a situation that just seems like there's no hope,
You say to yourselve, I've already been sitting here for three decades…
I'm just waiting to die out of this.
Then I am here to tell you that the contract of possibility is still available to each and every one of us. When we accept the truth for what it is and we step out in obedience—moving without excuses—we become the miracle that we have been praying for.
I want you to know that if you have already given up on praying for anything to change because you've sat in this pain for so long—you don't have to give up. I'm extending an offer to you. This is an opportunity to move your feet regardless of whether anybody else seems to be moving faster or more successfully than you.
