What if your birthday was always on Monday?

Why is it that we totally move our birthday to capture the weekend? And why is it an automatic “bust” when your birthday falls on a Monday? What if the Monday birthdays were actually the key to something amazing? And you’ve simply been missing out because of your perspective?

This year, I landed a Monday birthday. For many of us, Monday is not exactly the emotional high ground for a celebratory mood. But is that a bad thing? Here are three ways you can make your Monday Birthday an absolute holiday.

Refuse to move your celebration to the weekend
I know it’s tempting. Let’s just celebrate the weekend ahead. But it’s not your birthday yet, just a memorial day. Why not plan a Monday turnup? Plan to be out of the office Tuesday so that you can let your hair down on Monday.

Be totally random
If you’re looking for the perfect emotional hook to make your day feel special, then be random about it. Purchase something for yourself that’s totally off radar and out of your comfort zone. Allow yourself to be curious and embrace the randomness that marks your day as “special.”

Double Down on Your Dreams
Monday is a perfect day to take a fresh look at your week. But why not take a fresh look at your dreams instead? Perhaps this year is on the most boring day of the week for a special purpose. Perhaps the reduced noise of the party zone is necessary for your focus. Where are the plans you abandoned for busy-ness? What is the dream that still nags you in the corners of your consciousness. Pull out your notepad and get back to dreaming.

This year, my birthday landed on a Monday. Not just any Monday. The weekend was totally upstaged by the Super Bowl. But I was cool about it. I knew I didn’t’ want to go through the ritual birthday dinner. I also knew I didn’t want to plan anything. But I had a big, nagging dream, right within reach. I cleared my calendar and locked in. And this victory lap of life led me into an amazing first chapter of a dream I’ve been carrying for more than 8 years now.

I also purchased a 50 pound bucket of whole wheat to mill at home because it was random and a better food source for my family than manufactured flour.

This year’s Monday birthday actually made me excited about future Monday birthdays. I broke out of routines that mirrored my past, keeping me in a flower pot that my roots have grown too big for. I chose to purchase things that had purpose beyond the present moment. And I finally delivered a big beautiful baby that has been a long time coming.

I pray that your birthday falls on the most uninspired day of the week so that you will take on the challenge of making it unforgettable.

Be blessed and encouraged,
Judge Char
